Marc Ziss, ZConsulting Using Subsonic to build a Data Access Layer and Admin App |
5:45 |
Mark Magliocco, Consultant Mentoring 101 |
|
Separating Application Data Components
into a Data Access Layer (DAL) is something we as programmers should
always strive to do; but what about that one quick app that needs to be
done ASAP? The one that has no time to be properly architected because
it's only a temporary stop gap system anyway? (yeah, right).
Such systems (as well as those that are planned correctly) can highly
benefit from using Subsonic which is a free Object Relational
Mapping tool that makes building a DAL for your application a snap. It
offers LINQ like functionality in its ability to easily manipulate
database elements using strongly typed data, but doesn't require you to
wait until VS 2008 to use it. |
|
You have been asked to lead the effort for
a new project. You will need more than excellent technical skills for
this assignment to succeed. One of the skills you will need is to
be a good mentor. It is more then telling the team to do it right. I
will review some of my tips to be more effective. |
